Hickory Street Cafe
About This Spot
Stepping into Hickory Street Cafe feels like slipping into a cherished corner of Abilene where time slows down just enough for you to settle in comfortably. Nestled in a lovingly preserved craftsman-style house, the cafe radiates a warm, unhurried pace that invites both regulars and newcomers to linger over good company and thoughtfully prepared meals. The soft chatter and the faint clink of cups blend with the homey details of the decor, creating a quietly inviting backdrop for moments that feel both familiar and restorative.
Here, the menu mirrors the spirit of the place—unpretentious, fresh, and crafted with care. Instead of flashy claims, the food tells its own story through the honest comfort of dishes like tender chicken salad nestled in a flaky croissant or a perfectly balanced quiche offered alongside a bright, crisp house salad. The inviting aroma of homemade zucchini bread is impossible to miss, teasing just enough to tempt a second visit, or maybe a loaf to bring home. Each plate arrives with a subtle attention to detail that reflects a kitchen driven by passion rather than rush, the kind of place where favorites are born without fuss.
The rhythm of Hickory Street Cafe is set by genuine hospitality, from the friendly smiles that greet you to the attentive staff who make effort feel natural. It’s a spot where locals find more than just a meal—they find the comforting ritual of sitting down to thoughtful food, sharing in the everyday with a sense of belonging. Got to have lunch here for the first time last week. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. And the food is top notch. I had a soup and half sandwich and still had leftovers. Price point is very reasonable for the amount of food uou receive. Cannot wait to visit again soon!

Stopped in for lunch recently and really enjoyed the experience. The staff was friendly, and the food was amazing, all handmade by folks who clearly love food. The environment was really neat too. Setup in an old craftsman-style house, it was comfortable and inviting. The details in the decor were topped only by the attention to detail in their food. Everything was fresh, the quiche was delicious, and peach tea is probably the best peach tea I have ever had. I will definitely be back.

Hickory Street Cafe is a must if you’re in Abilene, Texas. This cafe that serves up some of the best homemade zucchini bread that you’ll ever come across and can be bought in loaves to go, is only open during the week for lunch. It also serves salads, sandwiches, soups and other fresh baked goods. The children’s menu includes Mac and cheese, which was a hit with some of our group. The chicken salad and quiche were also made with fresh ingredients. I had a sandwich with a side of the cream of potato soup and fresh fruit cup topped with yogurt… delightful combination. And what’s better than a good meal served with a raspberry ice tea with free refills. It was a charming atmosphere in a historic home with very tasty food. In fact we bought a few loaves of the zucchini bread to take back home because it was that good. Tip - make reservations to make sure there’s a table available. Highly recommend!

Went today for the first time with my best friend. Just went on a whim for a quick lunch. The place is absolutely adorable! The whole atmosphere is great! Love that they kept the house aesthetic in tact. The staff are so nice. I believe Denise was our server today, sweetest lady. The food....omg!!! Sooooo good! We also got peach and raspberry tea, so refreshing so good. The prices were great too! Definitely will be going back to try something else on the menu!!! Definitely recommend!

First time here, it will not be my last! Came after lunch rush and it was peaceful, but I’m sure even with a ton of people the food/service no doubt would still be just as excellent! Words couldn’t express the attentiveness our waitress provided! (Unfortunately I cannot remember her name! Sorry!) and the front desk lady gave the most warm welcoming and cheery feel! The atmosphere was bright and airy. The decor was spectacular and gave you a farm/cottage house feel. We had the Philly cheesesteak, chicken salad sandwich, and the side fixings of pasta salad, broccoli cheddar soup, potato sticks, zucchini bread (absolutely delicious!!) , paired with their sweet iced peach tea! Please, if it’s a lovely day or even a rainy one… stop in and have brunch or lunch! You will not be disappointed!
